ProgressbarOS is the operating system that Progressbar95 uses. It is modeled off of the Microsoft Windows operating system. To unlock new releases of ProgressbarOS, one must achieve the minimum CPU, RAM, and disk space necessary. Unlike the Windows operating system, there is no need to wait several years before the next version of ProgressbarOS is released.

Features

The Boot Menu is the menu that appears when the player opens the game. You see your CPU and your RAM in the top left. You also see all the releases of ProgressbarOS you have installed so far. Tapping one opens that version. More information can be found in Boot Menu.

The Begin Menu is the Menu where you can load your existing save, start a new game, access Settings and ProgressDOS, get Help and Restart. From Progressbar 1 to Progressbar 3.14, the Begin Menu was named Program Controller. More information can be found in Begin Menu.

Along with some slower alternatives to what each version of Progressbar could do, ProgressDOS offers the only way to find Bonus.exe files and a majority of Cheats.txt files (though a few can be found in the desktop).

Settings is found in the Begin menu in every single ProgressbarOS. In the settings menu, you can do a lot of things that you can do to make your gameplay experience better. More information can be found in Settings.

Defragmentation can be used to remove yellow segments from the progress bar with the cost of a minigame and takes 180 seconds to activate. Available from Progressbar 95 to Progressbar 10. In Progressbar 81 and 10, it's named Optimization. Added to the game in 0.26.

Firewall can be used to block red, pink and gray segments from touching the progress bar and takes 300 seconds to activate. Available from Progressbar 95 plus to Progressbar 10, and customizable from Progressbar 2000 to Progressbar 10.

Slow Time can be used to slow the progress bar segments down and blur the background. Available from Progressbar Largehorn onwards. It is one of the two only programs that are available in Hardcore mode and one of the two only programs that are available in Progressbar 1X.

When getting a BSOD, you can use this tool to fix errors in your progress bar by playing a minigame. Available in every system except Progressbar Chitown. It is one of the two programs that are available in Hardcore game mode and one of the two only programs that are available in Progressbar 1X.

Media Player is a ProgressbarOS program that resembles Windows Media Player. In Progressbar 1 to Progressbar 3.14, it is called PB Speaker (Media Player in 3.14). In Progressbar 95 to Progressbar 2000, it is called ProgAmp (based on WinAmp). In Progressbar Whisper to Wista, it is called ProgressBaZaA. In Progressbar 7 to 81 it is called ProgressTunes. In Progressbar 10 onwards it is called Progress Music. New versions of the songs are unlocked by playing a special game mode in which all of the segments collected must be blue. This game mode has different names in different releases of ProgressbarOS; for example, it is called ProgAmp in Progressbar 95 to 2000, ProgressBaZaA in Progressbar Whisper to Wista, PBTunes in Progressbar 7 to 81 and PBStream in Progressbar 10 onwards. More information can be found in Media Player.

The store is where a player can spend real life money to purchase upgrades. The minimum buyable upgrade is called "Progressbar Ad Free" for USD$1.99, which removes ads, while the maximum buyable upgrade is called "Progressbar ∞" for USD$23.99, which removes ads and unlocks all current and future skins. More information can be found in Store.

Restart is an option seen on the Begin Menu. The Restart option will shut down the currently running version of ProgressbarOS, and will then return the user to the Boot Menu. The Shutdown option will play the shutdown jingle and then exit the user from the game. On Progressbar Meme and older systems it will also show a screen with orange text "It's now safe to turn off the game".

Editions

Editions are an important mechanic of Progressbar95. These allow you to use custom wallpapers in systems with a Pro label, get bonus points as labels go higher and eventually unlock new operating systems with enough Pro or Expert labels. There are six known editions: Regular, Professional, Expert, Master, Adept and Grand.

Regular is the lowest edition that you can obtain by getting the operating system. In this edition, you are not allowed to use custom wallpapers and no bonus points are awarded. The regular bootscreens of Progressbar 3.14, Progressbar 95, Progressbar 95 +PLUS, Progressbar 98, Progressbar Meme and Progressbar 2000 use "hypercasual UI game" in place of the label.

Professional (often shortened to Pro) is the second lowest edition you can obtain by reaching a certain level (consult the table below). In the PC version, two Pro labels are required to unlock Progressbar 3.14, three are required to unlock Progressbar 2, four are required to unlock Progressbar 1, and five are required to unlock PB-DOS Shell. When you complete a level in an operating system with a "Pro" label, it gives you 1000 points (or 1500 with Hardcore). In an operating system with a Pro label or higher, you are allowed to use custom wallpapers. Sometimes, you may get the message "Congratulations! You are the professional!" with the Professional badge and "Special game label" below it when you get this label. Its real life counterpart is obviously the edition of the same name used in Windows NT versions from 2000 onwards (except Windows Vista).

Expert is the third lowest edition that you can obtain by reaching level 100. One Expert label is required to unlock Progressbar NOT 4.0. When you complete a level in an operating system with an "Expert" label, it gives you 3000 points (or 4500 with Hardcore). Sometimes, you may get the message "Congratulations!" with the Expert badge and "Special game label" below it when you get this label. Its real life counterpart may be the "Enterprise" edition used for Windows Vista onwards.

Master is the third highest edition that you can obtain by reaching level 250. When you complete a level in an operating system with a Master label, you will get 5000 points.

Grand is the highest edition you can obtain by reaching Level 1000. When you complete a level in an operating system with the Grand label, you will get ____ points. Grand may be a real-life counterpart of Ultimate editions from Vista and 7.

Though not direct editions, they are technically editions.

+PLUS

+PLUS (supposedly) indicates that it is an add-on/modified version of Progressbar. It is used in Progressbar 95 +PLUS. Its real life counterpart is most certainly Microsoft Plus!.

Progressstation

Progressstation is used in Progressbar NOT 4.0, replacing the "Hypercasual UI game" label. Its real life counterpart is most certainly the workstation edition. Since the "Progressstation" text never changes, this supposedly means that either there are other editions of Progressbar NOT 4.0 that the player is not able to access or the full name is "Progressbar NOT 4.0 Progressstation" from the beginning.

Trivia

  • When you get your first label of any edition, you will be rewarded with an achievement associated with it.
  • Most Grand Edition logos are black or a very dark shade of gray, which is why Progressbar 10's Grand logo is difficult to see when the system is starting up.

  • This page was the most vandalized page, with a few users often adding a lot of fake operating systems in this page.
  • Until September 10, 2020, the Editions header appeared partly informative and each individual edition has its own page. From September 10, 2020 to September 12, 2020, the Editions header was removed and the Editions page was created. Starting from September 12, 2020, the Editions header returned informative and the Editions page is now in Candidate for Deletion.
  • Until September 12, 2020, Restart and Boot Menu had their own pages.
  • From September 12, 2020 to September 13, 2020, Media Player and Boot Menu were merged to this page. However, due to the complaint from Seafoxlrt616, EpicAlexisMaxwell gave Media Player and Boot Menu back their own page and removed extra information in this page. This also applies to Boot Menu, Hearts, Store and Settings from September 12, 2020 to September 14, 2020.
  • For a short time in September 14, 2020, EnzoTakeda deleted most of the important information of the page. EpicAlexisMaxwell reverted it.
  • Except on September 20, 2020, this is the biggest article. On September 20, 2020, this WAS the second biggest article, with Changelog being the first one.

  • Points for completing a level with the Grand label
