Editions are an important mechanic of Progressbar95. It is as well a reward you get after completing a certain number of levels. 6 editions are present in most operating systems, whilst 13 editions are present in 8-bit computers. Gaining an edition would also gain you a Badge (also called a Label).
Once you earn an edition on a Progressbar system you also get a new startup screen, and in the boot menu, it shows what badges you have. BarOS's boot menu shows what edition of the OS you have in brackets under the OS name, and BarOS systems show the badges you have in the startup screen.
Systems with badges get bonus points as labels go higher and eventually unlock new operating systems with enough Pro or Expert badges, or servers for Grand badges on certain systems. They also allow you to use user wallpapers (all Progressbar and Progressbar Server systems and BarOS 9 and higher, a pattern editor is available if you are in BarOS 8 or below, or BAR/X), themes and cursors.
Progressbar, BarOS and B OS[]
Regular is the lowest edition that you can obtain by getting the operating system. In this edition, you are not allowed to use custom wallpapers and no bonus points are awarded. The regular bootscreens of Progressbar 3.14, 95, 95 plus, 98, Meme, 2000 and 11 use "hypercasual UI game" in place of the label. Its real life counterpart may be the "Home" edition used for Windows XP onwards.

Professional (often shortened to Pro) is the second lowest edition you can obtain by reaching a certain level (consult the table below). In the PC version, two Pro labels are required to unlock Progressbar 3.14, three are required to unlock Progressbar 2, four are required to unlock Progressbar 1, and five are required to unlock PB-DOS Shell. When you complete a level in an operating system with a "Pro" label, it gives you 1000 points (or 1500 with Hardcore). In an operating system with a Pro label or higher, you are allowed to use custom wallpapers. When you get a Pro badge on a system, you will get the "Congratulations! Special game label" message (prior to 0.6006, it didn't always appear).
Prior to version 0.30, the Pro label was called OSR 2 in Progressbar 95 and 95 plus and Second Edition (SE) in Progressbar 98.
Its real life counterpart is obviously the edition of the same name used in Windows NT versions from 2000 onwards (except Windows Vista).

Grand is the highest edition you can obtain by reaching level 1000. When you complete a level in an operating system with the Grand label, you will get 10000[1] points. Grand may be a real-life counterpart of Ultimate editions of Vista and 7. If you get a Grand badge on a Progressbar system, the logo will be darker than the regular logo. This also applies to server systems, but more darker as the consumer counterpart.

Though not direct editions, they are technically editions.
- Plus (stylized as +PLUS): This version supposedly indicates that it is an add-on/modified version of Progressbar. It is only used in Progressbar 95 plus. Its real life counterpart is most certainly Microsoft Plus!.
- Progressstation: Progressstation is used in Progressbar NOT 4.0 and Progressbar NOT 3.60, replacing the "hypercasual UI game" label. Its real life counterpart is most certainly the Workstation edition, used in Windows NT 3.5 and NT 4.0. Since the "Progressstation" text never changes, this supposedly means that either there are other editions of Progressbar NOT 4.0 and Progressbar NOT 3.60 that the player is not able to access, a new edition is coming soon, or the full names are "Progressbar NOT 4.0 Progressstation" and "Progressbar NOT 3.60 Progressstation" from the beginning. However, the first statement was sometimes clarified by some players as false, due to Progressbar NOT 4.0 Server existing since 0.9280.
