Settings are found in the Begin menu/Taskbar in every single system. In the settings menu, you can do a lot of things to make your gameplay experience better. You can find the Settings menu as the third icon in the Begin Menu, in PB-DOS Shell in the Taskbar, in BarOS in the Pyrus menu and in B OS in the Main menu.
User: You can configure the welcome screen and change details (like picture/name). This appears on Progressbar NOT systems, BAR/X, all servers, BarOS 10 onwards and H@ckgresh.
Sounds: You can turn on or turn off game sounds and HDD noises (later if you have an SSD drive), enable/disable and simulate haptic feedback and enable/disable app notifications.
Language:
You can change from one language to another. Up to now, there are twelve languages.
Before version 0.4?, the language menu used buttons instead.
You can turn on or turn off the old in-game keyboard for ProgressDOS and Terminus.
You can change the clock from 12-hour clock to 24-hour clock and vice versa.
You can change the date of the system. This option is unavailable in BarOS and B OS (BC kernel).
Attempting to set the year to 00 in an unprotected system will cause a Y2K error, which will present a BSOD if you close it. Afterwards, in the Progressbar boot menu, Progressbar 2000 is renamed to Progressbar 1900.
Attempting to set the year to 2038 in a system with a 4 year digit, will cause an error saying "Epochalypse", which will present a BSOD if you close it.
Accessibility: This option is unavailable in Progressbar 11, 11.22, Server 2021, Server 2023, BarOS and B OS.
Color blindness mode: You can turn on or turn off color blindness mode. If you turn it on, it makes the red segment have an exclamation mark, the pink segment has a minus mark, and the gray segment has a 0 mark. If you are in the Matrix game mode, the blue segment (green in Matrix game mode) has a + mark.
Reduce flashing and blinking: You can enable all flashing and blinking effects or reduce them. If you turn it on, the CRT display will no longer have a flicker effect, some pop-ups will blink even slower, the BSOD effect in Progressbar systems and Bar System 1 to BarOS 9 doesn't glitch, and elements that have blinking effects will no longer blink (e.g. the "Happy Bar" icon in the startup from Bar System 1-BarOS 10.III).
Enlarged fonts: You can enable a larger font for select text strings. If you turn it on, all text become larger. It is self-explanatory.
Progressbar trails: You can enable/disable the trails that the progressbar leaves behind. Available on systems that support this.
You can change from one wallpaper to another. There are 10 built-in wallpapers on all Progressbar and BarOS systems and 1 built-in wallpaper on all server systems. The first one is unlocked by installing the operating system itself, and the next ones are unlocked after reaching a certain level.
The ability to change to custom wallpapers in operating systems becomes available when reaching the Pro label. In Bar System 2 to BarOS 8, a pattern editor is used instead of a user wallpaper. User wallpaper cannot be found in PC version.
In versions prior to 0.54, you will get an option to replace the wallpaper on your phone with the one currently selected in the OS.
In BarOS 14, there's an option to enable/disable animated wallpapers. If the option is enabled, wallpapers 1, 5 and 10 will be animated while the rest will just be white (probably a bug). Disabling the option will make the previously mentioned animated wallpapers turn to their still versions and the rest will be normal.
Cloud Saving: You can turn on or turn off Cloud Saving. This setting lets you keep your progress when switching a device and can only be done on the same platform. Cannot be found in the PC version.
Display: Called Display Properties before 0.7260[verify]. This option is unavailable in BarOS and B OS (BC kernel).
Display: You can change from one color palette to another. There are 16 colors, 256 colors, High Color and True Color. You can turn on or off the CRT display (if you have an LCD Monitor). When the CRT display is enabled, you can degauss the monitor. Some color palettes are unavailable until you get a good enough video card. There is also a "Ray Tracing ;)" option that can only be enabled when you have the nVD RayTx 2020 t video card or higher.
In versions 0.9830 or higher, the GPU manufacturer's logo appears in the center of the monitor.
Taskbar: You can change the taskbar height. Cannot be found in the PC version.
Cursor: You can hide the cursor (cannot be done in PC version) and turn on or off cursor trails. Since the 0.64 update, you can change the cursor look if you have an edition on the system you are running.
Fonts: You can change what font to use for the selected system. In version 0.96 or higher on the PC version, this option is included. This option is unavailable in Progressbar 11 onwards, all server systems, BarOS and B OS.
Themes: You can change the visual theme here. Currently, available only for Progressbar 95 plus and onward, BarOS 8 and onward and H@ckgresh. This option is unavailable in Progressbar 95 and below, Progressbar NOT 4.0, all server systems, BarOS 7 and below, BAR/X and B OS.
Restore purchases: Used to fix store purchases in the game. This is only available on the iOS version.
In BarOS and B OS, some settings don't exist like: User, Accessibility, Display and Themes.
When playing on the PC version, the "Display" setting exists, so you can still switch between full-screen and windowed.
The "Display" setting can be also found in the PC version of B OS, with the same options as Progressbar's Display setting (excluding Cursor and Fonts).
In BarOS 8 and later, the Themes setting can be found.
In BarOS 10 and later, the User setting can be found.
The earliest system the "User" setting can be found on is Progressbar NOT 3.60, as Windows NT was primarily used for servers/businesses. In BarOS, it appears on BAR/X, BarOS 10 onwards and H@ckgresh.
The earliest system the "Themes" setting can be found on is Progressbar 95 plus (excluding Progressbar NOT 4.0). It appears in BarOS starting from BarOS 8 (excluding BAR/X).
